WHAT IS TRADITIONAL ASTROLOGY?
It is a synthesis of Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and Greek astrological principles that dates back to the 2nd Century BCE during the Hellenistic period (around 150 BCE-625CE). It was during this time period that the astrology we are familiar with today emerged, taking into consideration the Ascendant, the planets in the signs and houses, aspects, lots, and a variety of timing methods.
During the Christian era it was virtually forgotten due to the loss of the Greek language and the condemnations that arose for practices that were considered to be "pagan" by the church and state.
Some of the text did make it to the monastic libraries but were primarily forbidden to read. Before they disappeared completely, some texts were able to make their way to cultures in Persia and India, where they were translated into Pahlavi and Sanksrit, and adapted to the philosophies of their new host cultures.
You can see the similarities between Traditional (Hellenistic) Astrology and Vedic Astrology to this day!
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TRADITIONAL AND MODERN ASTROLOGY
What we know as Modern Astrology really did not make itself known until the early 1900’s when Alan Leo, a British Astrologer and Theosophist, began to bring astrology back into the limelight. He is coined with the term “the Father of Modern Astrology”.
The early 1900’s was a time when psychoanalyst and psychologists like Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung became popular and astrology became more psychologized. Many of the interpretations and significations for the signs, planets, and houses that we see commonly used now came from this time.
Traditional astrology is sort of an umbrella term that spans the time when astrology became studied as a Sacred Science in the 2ndCentury BCE up to the early Renaissance period, my primary focus being on the Hellenistic period, which is the period of time when the Greeks had control of Egypt.
Traditional Astrology utilizes a variety of timing techniques as well as focuses on the Sect of a chart and Planetary conditions (Essential and Accidental Dignities) when assessing a nativity. It centers around how events manifest on the physical/material plane, thus guiding individuals to navigate life in the most beneficial way possible based on the significations of their chart.
WHAT YOU WILL GAIN
You will gain a deeper understanding of what your Natal chart is actually telling you. If you have felt overwhelmed in the past by astrological terminology and interpretations, this class will help you gain confidence in the ability to interpret your chart and the charts of others in a replicable way.
AS ABOVE, SO BELOW!
Learn the Traditional significations of the planets and how these show up in our material reality. By understanding the Ancient planetary meanings you will be able to provide depth and breadth when providing interpretations to others.
Learn to take the chart apart to find the deeper meanings that are present and gain the ability to put the pieces back together to effectively tell the story of the nativity.
This will be a Four Week Introductory Class that will provide the Traditional Interpretations of the Planets, The Signs, The Houses, and the Sect of the Chart. By gaining a firm grasp of these principles, you will be better able to move forward with your Astrological Studies, no matter what direction you choose to go in.

Not sure what Pull Pen Paint is or who Kiala Givehand is...keep reading.
Pull • Pen • Paint: A Journey of Self-Discovery Using Signs, Symbols, and Systems in Your Spiritual & Creative Practice is a mystical and intuitive approach to self-study and getting to know yourself more deeply.
The class is hosted and facilitated by Kiala Givehand, an intuitive artist, bookbinder, poet, and card & chart reader, who serves women as a LifeAlchemist™ by guiding, supporting, and helping them feel more creatively & spiritually awake & empowered. She has gathered 30+ highly skilled teachers who she deeply respects and who come from the art world, the esoteric world (tarot, astrology, numerology, etc.), and the world of holistic healing. They are all prepared to teach lessons on how to live more creatively, more connected, and more authentically through making art that speaks your truth, writing words that tell the stories of your heart, and learning to embrace all the parts of who you are (and letting go of who you are NOT).
This is the FIFTH YEAR of the program and it continues to grow and support the growth of women who want to dig deeper into personal development so they can navigate the world more confidently and authentically. Kiala truly believes that this is how we heal -- gathering with like minded souls on a quest to become more authentic versions of themselves -- and exploring who we are using all the tools we have at our disposal.
So in this class, you will create, read, write, share, discuss, pull cards, journal, experience ceremony & ritual, and remember/re-learn things your soul has known for many lifetimes. You will also be introduced to mindfulness, energetics, astrology, numerology, tarot, meditation, breath work, chanting, soulful movement, and other holistically connected systems all in service of cultivating a deeper understanding of who you are. You will end the program with many pages of notes, art, and information to refer to for years to come.
And if you're up for it, you'll bind a journal at the beginning that you'll use for the program. It will be a sacred vessel for your voice in the form of your ideas, imagery, and imagination.
Doesn't it all sound divine?
P.S. I will be a Guest Teacher this Year so be sure to join us!!
